1966 Transmission
Here's a fairly open ended question:
My 1966 has the standard four speed in it. When I shift into second, it makes a bad rubbing noise. Not a grind, but a harsh rub. Any idea what this is?
Going from second to third is tough. If the rpm's are not very LOW, third gear for all intents and purposes will not engage. I'll hit a bad grind, and the car will only want to go into first. Any clues?
Is this the type of problem that should really be taken to a mechanic so they can perform all the transmission work, or is this a weekend fix in my garage?
Any help is appreciated as always.
Paul

Hello
Have a problem in understanding the exact issue, best would be a testdrive
All you can do is checking the shift lever mechanismen and the trany mounts.
If the trany is situng to low the shiftlever mechanismen can run against the firewall.
As shifting into secound & fourth means you pull the rod inside to the car.
However first is to look at it and maybe remove the allen screw on the junction under the tunnel cover plate. But don´t touch an 13 Hex bolts as you will have to find base adjustment again and maybe have to tow the car to the mechanic.
This will cost you time and if you ait see nothing the mechanic will not see much more so he has to testdrive.
