Post Are 912 and VW engines interchangeable?

I have a 1966 912, and was wondering if the 1600cc porsche engine is the same as the 1600cc VW engine. Thanks!

One of Harry Pellow's books (I think it's "Inner Circle") has a section about using a VW engine in a 356. It may discuss using one in a 912, also. I know it can be used in a 356 - I am rebuilding a 1200cc VW engine to have as a 'spare'

Hello

No they are not the same.

They share nuts and bolts and where designed by the same people but the engiens are as far apart as y standard small block cevy to a ZL 1 or LS6.

You can fit a type 1 engine in there and a good preped 2,0 type 1 will match the power for maybe a lower invest.
