Default Indiana 912E

I found this 912E located in Ft Wayne, IN. This one might make a nice summer daily driver.

Are there any local Rennlisters near Ft. Wayne who might know the car or have a recommendation for a knowledgeable shop in the area for these early 911/912 cars.

Opinions ?

i spoke to the guy who owned the car for 15 yrs before selling it to the dealer. and, he loves the car and says it runs great and has been well maintained. but, it's got rust. he mentioned about five of the usual spots. but other than that, seems pretty great. btw/ as of last week, the dealer would not budge on the price. also, there really are no good shops in Ft. Wayne to take an E to for a PPI. still, it is pretty. and if i didn't live a gadzillion miles away, i'd sure like to take an in-person look.

Thanks for the heads-up, floete. I cant make down there this week because I have to to to Mexicali for work so the earliest I could get there would be next weekend. The pic by the fuel filler showed what looked like overspray - do you know if the car had been repainted ? The seats show sheepskin covers - are the seats below in good shape ? If you dont mind - would you PM me the name or email and number of the PO, after asking him if he wouldnt mind another phone call.

Got some more pictures from the salesman at the dealer.

What you guys think ? Definately signs of rust but without a first hand look its hard to really tell.

I hope to go see the car next weekend since I am travelling for business this week Yuma AZ tonight and Mexicali MX tomorrow and rest of the week.

Thanks

Definitely rusty. These models are priced around 10K for decent drivers with solid bodies. Check the 912 Registry and The Samba websites for cars for sale to get a better idea of what's available:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/

What your seeing in these pictures is the tip of a rust iceberg that probably goes deep into the inner structure of this car. Unless you or someone you know and trust has the skill to repair/fabricate/replace all the rusted areas properly, the cost to restore a 912E like this would be cost prohibitive as there isn't enough upside potential value in the car to justify the investment.
