Convert from early to late generator
I'm considering to convert from the early small diameter generator to the later larger diameter 30 amp version for the following reasons.....
1.) the later generators are shared with VWs and are as a result more available and much cheaper...
Well, ok I have just one reason.... but hey isn't that enough? My buddy should have a late stand and backing plate. I find new GR15 units on E-bay for $89-125. Rebuilt early GR11X units are ave $350 if you can find them......
Anybody done this before? I would love to go to the alternator setup from Emory and hell, by now I've spent the equivalent (over the last ten years) but $900 is tough to swallow in one shot for a car that only sees track use..... I'd rather spend that on wheels or tires....
