Hello,

I'm struggling away doing my first valve adjustment (ever) on my 912 E, and I have a couple of questions.

First, I have found that articles referring to this process are a little ambiguous about what the gaps should be (.006 or .008). Hopefully someone can clear that up.

Second, some of these articles say that the intake and exhaust gaps should be different, which one is the intake and which is the exhaust.

Any help is appreciated.

In theory the exhaust valve will always experience more expansion due to more heat from the exhaust gases. Therefore it needs a larger gap. This applies across the board. Make sure each that for each pair of valves you are adjusting that particular cylinder is @ TDC. an easy way to do it is to pull the dist cap, set #1 to TDC and adjust that valve first then turn the crank 180 degrees then adjust the next cylinder. You can use the dist rotor to 'point' you in the right direction. Follow the spark plug wire to the cyl that the dist rotor is pointing at. This gives you a methodical way of hitting each cyl in the proper order.
