Default New to the 912 world, a foot in the 911 community, too.

Hello, all.

I thought I should introduce myself, I have recently purchased a 1965 912, Karmann #454406. It is far from a 912 anymore, however.

It has been at some point changed to be more 911 than 912. It has later 911SC rear fenders, 911 hood and bumper, "tea tray" whale tail (RSR fiberglas), and a lot of later 911 SC interior components. And, last but certainly not least, a 1969 911T engine.

I love the car, though it will always be a "Frankenporsche". It is not my first Porsche, I had previously a 1988 924S, which I also loved. But the 911 type has been the object of my desire since childhood.

I have been posting mostly on the 911 board, but I thought I should pop in here, state my serial number, and make myself available. I will likely continue down the 911 road with it, with performance upgrades and track time as my goal for my "entry level" 912/911.

I'm sure some 912 specific questions will arise!

Hey Jeff,
Frankenporsche or not, welcome! Sounds like you have some good elements in there. In keeping with the early theme, I would ditch the tail, but that's just my opinion. Post some more pics!

Thanks!

I do have to admit, I like the tail and late SC parts. But it is a 912 at heart, and despite it's cosmetic appearance, and I intend to badge it as such if I can locate a rear deck and dash badge set.

Mine is quite far gone, mostly converted to a 911 with various year parts.

So....a 912 is lighter than a 911? By how much?

Is the suspension identical? I know I do have the Nadella halfshafts. Can I source 911 shocks, struts, torsion bars, etc?
