Hey guys, still no updates on this one sorry.

The weather's much nicer but she slept for all of the winter and I have a lot to do to get it finished. I'll have updates sometime in the next several weeks. There's a lot to post about!

Detailed! Poor quality iphone pics to follow:

It's a night and day difference, looks like a different car.

No pictures of the hood because its paint is unworkable. I'll have our local guys match/respray it and show some pics of the completed car.

The paint now makes the car look like a 10/10 car (maybe 8/10 if you notice some slightly warped doors and hood) from about 15 feet away. Any closer and you'll spot 40 years of dings and dents, touch-up paint etc. I need to re-touch some of those spots and color sand. Being a frugal person, I love the fact that the car looks "good enough" now with almost no money spent.

The process was:
Clay bar the whole car (constantly wet the paint/clay while working it), probably spent about 5-6 hours on clay
Wool pad on whole paint job using Turtle Wax buffing compound and some Harbor Freight buffer
Medium foam (yellow) pad to remove residue and a little extra polishing action
Microfiber to dry it off
Soft (grey) foam with some cleaner/wax to do a final cleanup and wipe down with microfiber.

I'll try to get some higher res photos once the hood is done. Compare that to before!

You get the idea.

Skeptics told me there's no reason to spend 5 minutes on that paint and I should immediately take it to a shop for a new paint job (probably $5000!). It's clearly not the same thing, but it's a huge improvement. I can't wait to see their expression... but I know some people will still not approve.

Well I don't know about all that, this is merely delaying the inevitable. Bob will certainly not approve if it's not a 15-inch paint job maybe some day I'll paint her, but I know the drill. Most of these classics with nice paint jobs don't get driven enough. I like knowing I can drive it to the store and park next an 80s Bronco without fear of new door dings

ps - wasn't F1 great this weekend? Hamilton's a monster!

Dan,
I like your attitude. I'm all about driving my '68 911t. In fact, I am considering selling it because it may be too nice for my beat it like you stole it attitude of things. I like to flog these cars and may need something less original for a whip...

Just curious, any new updates?

I've been reading too much about SWB hotrods over at early911registry lately

check out the sand beige 912 at Holt Motorsports right now. It appears to be a restored stock 912. Might be useful for this restoration to show what it looks like...

That site is downright dangerous. I've been looking for a decent driver 912 myself for the last little while!

@Danny, I absolutely love the color, and the front plate surround is killer. Keep it up, man, I can't wait to see it done.
