Default 911 engine/trans mounts in 912

Hey all,

I've noticed an increasing number of 912s with the 'flat' 911 engine cross-bar mount and rubber engine mounts. I thought this is a great solution to the heavy/bulky multi-bushed stock 912 mount that let the engine rock around. I bought a early 911 cross bar on e-bay and had 911 mounts from my other car, (so a very small investment) and low and behold they don't bolt up as it appears they should from looking at others 912s. Hmmmmmmmmmm?? anybody have any experience here with what does fit? There is a good wgt savings and have you proced the 912 rubber blocks lately???

I'll post a picture later. I bought an early 91 trans mount as well but haven't tried to mount that one yet, I'll keep you posted.

Brgds, Peter

Peter, You may want to research this a little more. 911 parts are not always interchangable with the 912. What year is your 912? There are 3 different engine mounts for the 912 depending on the year car. You can obtain the complete 912 parts PDF from Porsche HERE and review the Engine Suspension section for the part numbers.

If you have not already discovered the 912 Registry I would look to that group and the vast knowledge over there and ask if changing to this type of engine mount is possible.

early 912s had a flat bar similar to 911s. but i dont think they are the same. there are also two types of larger square tubing type bars - 68s had 4 rubber blocks, and 69s had 6 rubber blocks i believe.

Harry / Urge,

My bad for making a simple assumption.... I double checked the PET and you're right! I had no idea the 912 ever had a flat cross bar. I thought people were just interchanging 911 pieces here.

912 part# 616 115 012 01 vs 911 part# 930 375 011 01

The difference, now that I'm an expert :-), the 912 bar is 1 inch longer and the four holes in the middle that bolt the bar to the brackets are much futher apart in all directions.

Live and learn, damn, I thought I knew everything about 912s..............

BTW - I have the 4 block bar and it just doesn't provide enough support. This is most likely why the factory added 2 additional outboard blocks later in 68'. Infact mine have 'settled' and the engine tilts ever so slightly to the left as a result. and when it hits that magic rpm where the balance is just wrong, the engine rocks side to side more than I'd like to see (or feel).

I might have 6 leftover from my 69 after I hard monted the motor and trans. I will look for them in the next day or so. Sagging blocks can be flipped. Grind off the locating tab if there is one.
