Question opinons of 2.0 used in 76

Just curious about the 2.0 fm the 914 that was used in the 76. Do you think these would be as fun and light as the originals? Special problems?

Just my humble opinion but NO. The 76 2.0 is not close to same motor and not good power to weight. Lots of odd parts and the gearbox and headers are real odd ball. The stock 76 912 was a slug in a sand box. The 66 to 69 912 motor can be built up into a fun little putt that runs and runs.

The 2.0L in the 912E is not powerful. That said, you can have them built into monsters. Jake Raby (as an example) builds some killer type IV motors. Want 150hp? you can have it! (just don't be shy with spending the money). The cars themselves are substantially heavier than the early cars. That's the bigger problem in my opinion.

i suggest you ask the 912E guys on the 912 registry forum. www.bbs912.org.

honestly i like the 912E, they are good solid cars, and they arent as bad as some people would make you believe.

I drove a 76 912E for 14 years. it was the best of the 19 Porsches I have owned except ofr my current 88 Carrera. Sure, the 912E is heavier, but it doesn't rust, can be built into hot rods (with enough $) like any other vehicle. I autocrossed mine for 11 of the 14 years and consistently won against early 912's and some 914's. Would I own another one...probably not as I'm hooked on my 88 Carrera.

One big plus of the 912E,--mileage. Coupled with the 911 sized tank it would go longer than YOU could.

Having driven a 912E for almost 200,000 miles as well as 2 regular 912's, I liked the 912E much more. I liked more than any other Porsche I owned until my current 91 C2. A little slow and prone to running hot but a great car.

The 912e is a great car and propably the most economical rear engined porsche available. I owned one and loved it! The only downfall was the fuel injection age issues and difficult parts supply.
