Default 912 at the Texas Mile...

I went down to the Texas Mile this past weekend to watch my bud, Brian, run his 951. He did well, and again, we saw the same, red, rat-racer 912 running all day. Word 'round the paddock was that he was running a roller-crank VW aircraft engine; to the tune of something like 110-115+mph through the traps.

Then, I got the new issue of 'Excellence' and saw an article about top speed racing being a cheaper alternative to PCA events and autocrossing. The guy in the article happens to run not only the black 912 in the article, but the red rat-racer we've seen twice. Anyhow, I felt like a tool for not making any efforts to talk to the guy at the Mile. We had 4 Porsche's under the canopy, and Mr. 912 was just 50 yards away; presumably having a great time rapping out his little "old" car.

I think that 'guy' is Dick Jurkowski... he has a 912E as well. Texas 912
I was thinking about taking either 928 (or 912) down there sometime as it looks like a lot of fun!! Btw, how fast did the 951 go?

Sorry for the late reset, guys. Been out with (another) family funeral. My bud, Brian's red 951 ran well up to its potential this time with a best of 147 mph. The fastest 951 was Jeff's green 2.8 stroker at 154. If the 928 you're talking about is a supercharged car that ran Sunday, then that was Jeff's other toy. That's me in the pic standing over Chuck (from Paragon) and Brian; in transition from "observer" to "grease slinger." Damn parking brake shoes had to come out as they were dragging. The very next run was Brian's first into the 140's. We had a laugh when I pointed to the weight savings we had after taking them out.

Morrie, is Dick getting out of the 912 business? Kinda cool seeing someone run what they brung; regardless of what it is...
