Default Did you see the 912 E for sale at Hershey?

I loved it! I must have gone back ten times to look at it. I know nothing about the 912s, and this is the first one I have been interested in. It looked like such a fun car to own at a decent price. Was it a nice one? I didn't know what to look for. Are the 912Es more or less desireable then the early 912s? I tried to talk my dad into taking it home...close but no cigar. Was this a nice example? Thanks in advance.

i wasnt at hershey b/c of some more important things i need to throw my money at right now.. (ie.. engine repairs).

are you talking about the white one? i have seen one other 912er post a pic of it, he didnt say much.

912Es are great cars. trusty 2 litre VW type 4 engine that was used in the 914, but with a 911S body. (story goes like this.. they stopped making the 914, and had a model gap for a year between the 914 and 924. they needed a low end model to fill the void in the market. well, they had 2099 914 type 4 motors left with out cars to go into... one of the guys in stutgart said, why dont we just throw them in a 911, make a 2nd generation 912 modle for a year so we can fill the gap and use up the rest of these motors. and so it was done. exactly 2099 were made. )

they handle great and can make very nice cars. stock.. about 90 hp. but the can out handle a 911, b/c of better balance and weight distribution.

you should go to www.bbs912.org and talk to Dave Lovato. he is a 912E owner in DC, and is a 912E expert of sorts. he was at hershey, he can tell you what he thought of the car.

a 912E can be less desirable. its newer. it has a type 4 motor instead of the porsche 356 motor used in the 912. also its age makes it less desireable. but its a great car. its newer, and a bit cmore comfortable than a 912 or early 911 b/c it was 6 years older than the 912 before it.

912E had thermal reactors to help make strict emmisions in cali. which were a pain on motors, most have the thermal reactors taken out.

also does it have the original fuel injection.. big key factor.

get on the bbs912.. talk to Dave L. he will teach you all you want to know.

(BTW i would kill for a nice 912e. Daves is bad ***)

Hey Harry, I was hoping you would reply. Too bad you couldn't make it to Hershey.

That isn't the 912 I was looking at. This one was red on black with rebuilt engine and trasmission. I've never given these any thought, but the body is just so clean and smooth...definitely a beautiful car. I wasn't sure about the engine differences but figured the original 912s are more desireable.

I checked out the www.bbs912.org board, very nice site! These have quite a following. Oh and I looked at your picture album. I've talked with Howard Beard before, he knows my father. Small world I guess. Anyway thanks for the information Harry.

Regards,
Ethan
