Default Looking for advice on buying a 912

Hello all,

I’ve been eyeing the 912 market now for about two years. I’m now to the point where I can actually purchase one. I’m looking for any advice that you guys might have on what to look for and watch out for when I’m checking them out.

There’s actually one for sale local to me that I checked out in person yesterday and it seemed nice. Body was in good shape and it comes with a lot of service history records. Starts up cold just fine, has some seeping around the carbs, a little oil underneath, and what sounds like a slight exhaust leak that I couldn’t pinpoint. A little smoke out of the tailpipe (is this normal?). What should compression be?

I haven’t driven it yet. When I do drive it, what should I look for beyond the obvious stuff?

Thanks
Mike
