Its either gong to be the ignition assembly is jamming in start for a few seconds instead of run, ( spring in ignition assembly) , or the starter solenoid is jamming up and not retracting .

perfect thanks .. it seems to have disappeared (the car has stood for a long time ) so I guess it’s a sticky solenoid!
