Default Potential modified 912e owner trying to nail value.

High everyone, I hope to get some insight from this wonderful community. I’m the current owner of a 2006 AP2 S2000, I’ve spent the last year refreshing the S2K into my vision and I’ve come to the end.

Ok, where I am now is looking for a 912, I’ve found a very nice 76 912e. Car is very clean with a new window out repaint, 55k Miles, gaurds red. The catch is the previous owner has installed a 3.2 / 5 speed into the car. Swap looks well done and car runs and drives well. I am having a hard time putting a number on this car given the modifications, my concern being a first time buyer is paying over the top of the market. I plan on keeping the car long term, but obviously it would be nice to be able to sell the car given something comes up as does in life sometimes. Would anyone care to chime in with opinions on this situation, buying a repainted 912e with extensive modifications (swap) as far as the hit in value goes. Me and seller (dealer) have come to a halt at 34k.

Thank you

Are you referring to the car that’s currently listed on eBay? That one has been bid fairly high when it was previously listed. Above $30k at one point, I think.

This other example from BaT might be the best recent comparison of what the market will bear: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-porsche-912e-2/

Yes that is the car, I hadn’t seen it on eBay, I just went to victory motor cars and looked at it in person. Looks like I need to make a decision sooner than later ha ha

I thought it might be. I would use the car that was on BaT as your negotiating point.

His reviews online are so-so for sure, I try to see both sides, dealing with a large number of air cooled cars that are 40 years + old, it’s hard to ensure 100% that there won’t be issues from time to time. Point taken though, definitely doing a PPI on whatever I find.

I decided to pass on this one, mainly because they could not provide pre-paint photos to me. The car was painted at Victory, just seems weird to me there were no photos taken before paint, I don’t want to uncover any demons later.
