930 price disparity qn?

Default 930 price disparity qn? (update with data)

Hi all
What is the reason for the vast disparity in prices for 930 cars? I have been trying to analyze price profiles using cars currently being sold in various online sites, it is hard to understand a pattern or trend. Typically, low mileage, uncommon colors/options cars that boast originality are the most expensive, but the 930 do not seem to follow that. You can find hot rodded cars equally priced. Prices range from $79k to quarter million with no obvious pattern. I also see relatively large number of 930s on the market but most of the cars being advertised have been sitting on the market for a long time too, I have been watching since last year. So what is the deal?
Do 930 have emission issues that make them hard to pass smog like some of the 993s?
Do upgraded turbos etc. consider a better value vs original turbo still intact.
Per my research last years (Ex:1989) are the most desirable is that true?

Hello everybody,

I can only speak for germany.

The best prices are cars which are quite original and have little KM. A few previous owners and a gapless check from Porsche stamp. These are then cars over 200k

I think the equally priced hotrods are being ambitious, hoping to find a someone willing to pay for their mods. Typically any hotroded non-stock cars are worth less and then good condition low miles stock cars. There seems to be alot of people trying to cash in on the rise in demand of these cars and i'm seeing many sitting for long periods not selling at overly ambitious prices.

It is no doubt ambitious pricing. My dad still has his bought-new 89 930. He sends me these ads all the time. Most of them are nonsense. I did sneak home this weekend and gave her a shake down. What a great vehicle.

If a car sits for a long time and doesn't sell it is overpriced and cannot be used as representative of market value. I can ask $100k for my 74 base 911 but if it's a $40k car my ask is totally meaningless.

As for the mods, one must look at what is done and by whom. If you have two 79 930s, one stock and one with a $50k Dawe's or Pat Williams or Jerry Woods engine in the other one, the hot rod does deserve to be priced higher. Not $50k higher, but $10-20k would be totally expected.

Furthermore, one cannot paint the 930 market with a broad stroke anymore than one could paint the longnose market with one. Turbo Carreras are different than late 70s/early 80s 3.3l 930s, which are different again than a late car with a G50/50 gearbox.

I did more research and wanted to get your opinion.
BAT is one of the market places where you can observe actual sold prices hence my attempt to look there for a price trend. I understand this is an auction site where extreme price variations can occur due to buyer’s emotions etc. however I think we can gather some sense of what people are willing pay. Cars that did not sell indicate that BAT estimated reserve price is higher than what people willing to pay for that auction on that day. I have sold few P-cars in BAT and they are very serious about the reserve price, sometimes little scary if you are the seller.
I have listed below all 930 cars that had been sold as well as cars that did not met reserved price.
As expected, low mileage and special cars go at very high prices where high mileage (and odd-*****: tracked, crazy upgrades, grey market) falls into the other end.
It does not look like year of the car really matter, but again I have a very small sample size.
What I gathered from this is that, if I were to buy a driver quality, well maintained, close to original but with upgrades to make the car better suited for today roads, with 75-85k miles, and with common color combo, I should expect to pay somewhere around $80-85k.
Is my assumption reasonable?.

In Europe and I guess in other markets we have several different things to consider :

Fist: Limited edition or few units produced.
Second : If it's has been restored or original well conserved.
Third : number of kilometers.
Fourth: Maintenance book service.
Fifth : non modified unit..
Sixth : Better European row than from other markets. (power, handling, esthetic but overall because of easyer homologation across European markets where you can sell your car).

That is generally, but it is an error in my opinion because the most important thing should to the condition of the unit you want to buy.
We all have seen some original cars with maintenance book service and low mileage in worst conditions than a high mileage without book but A-Z restored and maintenance invoices car.

I think your presumption is reasonable. For what it's worth pricing seems to be on the rebound. Like real estate around here. The well cared for homes sell the quickest at the highest close to ask.
