Default air injection pump

When I purchased my car the air injection pump had already been removed. Is this good or bad. I talked to a couple local mechanics and I got two different answeres. The car is a stock 79.

Good if you don't need to pass emissions, bad if you do.

You are better off without it. All it will do it pump air backin to the exhaust and cause it to run hotter. Not to mention those pumps are heavy! Save the weight, leave it out.

Thanks Guys. Anyone know where I can get a set of nice plugs for the six air injector holes. Should they be aluminum or steel? Thanks Eric
