1976 930 Tail. Info? Value
Hi all!
I have a 1976 turbo deck lid that I am curious about. It's currently on a 911 that I believe will never be anything more than a driver (steel slant nose, flares, 50k 1984 motor and tranny, and targa to convertible). Early conversion that seems to have been done at least half decently; age has taken it's toll.
Was told it is a factory lid. Some short research shows that this is a none AC Turbo lid that was only produced for 2 years. Wondering if it's worth buying another lid and sell this one (paint, search, etc.) Wondering if it's real too.
Interested in hearing your guys' input. What do you think this deck lid is worth?
Would appreciate any help.
(Not sure why the pics are upside down, but not sure how to fix that.)

There is a long, long thread on pelican about the original turbo tail. I used to have one which I thought was a repo and sold it really cheap. Yours looks authentic. There is a part number on one of the legs underneath to confirm. It could be worth more than $1000 ,maybe 2k now, mine came off a euro 3.0 Carrera and was for a car without air . All early turbo Carrera,s sold in NA had air and yours is wanted desperately by early car owners trying to restore the original look. I think yours is for an air car because of the second grill and the rubber baffle part.

I would be interested if you are going to sell it as I know a friend who just bought a car and is in need of one.
It's a non a/c, Turbo 930 whale tail most likely for a euro car. Jamie@kutchwines.com

Yes, it is a metal frame. Was told it was inspected by a "Porsche guy" and said it was authentic. Was told this car was converted early in it's life, so I believe it...

Anyone have any idea what this wing is worth?[/QUOTE]
Yes,
around $6500.00 if original rubber with crest & cooling duct intact.
Original 1976 turbos sell for over 200k.
Hardly any of those 1st yr. wings survived.
MS road & race had one a while ago for $5800.00 I think.
I would contact Magnus Walker.

He will buy it for his early turbos.

Thanks for the good info and idea. I reached out to him through email and voice mail, but no response yet. Please PM me if there's a better way for me to contact him.
Cooling duct intact. Can't find the crest on the rubber.
I'm getting to the point where I'd be interested in selling this wing... I take some more detailed pics if anyone is interested.

$6500? HAHAHHAHA
They are worth quite a bit but if Magnus doesn't ring you back right away I wouldn't be surprised~
Check Ebay sold listings, sell regularly for $1500-$2000.

He has a cool diagram on page 7
Rsnodgrass from Pelican:
I've been working on the whaletail section for my mid-1970s Porsche book and there is quite a bit of confusing information out there (fiberglass weaves, part number stampings, frame steel vs fiberglass, heat shield variations, paint variations, detecting reproductions, etc). Attached are the parts lists for the whale tail from January 1975 Spare Parts Catalog. This should be very enlightening to this discussion on the 1975 930 tails. Thanks to Joe Hartman for providing these period parts list pages.
Reminder: PET parts catalogs (especially the modern PDFs) show REPLACEMENT parts and not always what was originally fitted. Porsche removed parts all the time, and combined parts, to simplify their production as well as inventory management in the decades that followed. Anyone relying on modern PET parts catalog for a restoration can inadvertently end up with wrong parts for their car. Original period Parts Catalog, such as this eBay version give much better insight.
