Valuation Help
I need an appraisal for insurance purposes of my 1988 930... the 'expert' insurance underwriter told me it was worth $40,000! It's a bone stock, no accident, 70,000 mile, black on black, all records in hand, 3 owner 930... Obviously the underwriter is uninformed. Any suggestions?
The car is located in the Savannah Georgia area.

I just raised my agreed upon value with Leland West for my 89 Turbo Cab from 110 to 175. Leland West uses Excellence magazine for the valuation.
You can use either Excellence magazine or the Online Hagerty valuation tool

For context, my 88 930 has 63,000 miles and is insured for $130K. Its a well-heeled concours car with bolt on engine mods. Adjust your valuation accordingly. My number is what Hagerty would call "condition 2" which is the second highest of four. Id say a 1 would need to be something Pebble Beach would take in, and a 3 a straight driver that looks good from 10ft away. A 4 is a car that needs a bottomless wallet of love.
Ive seen insurance prices run the gamut for such a valuation. From $600 to $2600. Theres really no rhyme or reason. Not even among similar car owners using the same agency. Its like you gotta shop it like you're shopping for a car and wheel and deal. Mines about $600/yr for the valuation and full coverage but its rolled into an umbrella policy.
Your car being stock should be pretty affordable. I always got classified into the "ahh I see, you like to race on the street like a *****-stick, don't you?" modified pricing schematic when they hear about the engine mods. Agencies would always quote me a premium that was 50-70% more expensive than a non modified car. Hagerty, Grundy, Condon Skelly, all of 'em it seemed. The idiots I had prior to the umbrella route -- Safeco -- required that I get an appraisal every year too. PITA. Yet they still lowballed me on valuation by 50 grand.
Your mileage may vary.

I needed an appraisal on all my agreed value policies of late. Especially w/the rising values. YMMV.

I just went with Grundy after being with Hagerty for years. Neither one ever asked for an appraisal.

I upped the insurance value recently and as usual they just requested new photos. My policy is with American Modern Insurance, I've used them for about ten years ago.

Interesting thread - and thanks for all the input, as I'm wrestling with the same issues on my '88 Black with grey interior... Thanks OP for posting it - with the same MY as mine..
