930 speakers upgrades
Does anyone know if there were any oem speaker upgrades available for '78 930's? I have three Blaupunkt speakers in my doors that look to be from the right era and often wondered if they were oem. One is labeled tweeter, one mid. The third is bigger and I don't think it is labeled other than the Blaupunkt name.

The 930 was the choice of many audiophiles of its era and its not uncommon to find one with any number of aftermarket configurations.
I am not aware of any direct upgrades to the factory supplied speakers and my understanding is that switching to anything other than the OEM speakers will require some modification to the original panel/door configuration.
Do you still have the (Blaupunkt) Porsche Stereo-Cassette Radio in your 1978 930?

Back many years ago I found a pair of good-sounding speakers that fit the door location of my '79 with no modification; they were bolt-ins and use the original grills. I don't remember what brand they are, but they are at least 25 years old now and still sound pretty good. I remover the entire rear shelf and bought a new one from a PCA Pano advertiser; that way I felt better about putting holes in it for better speakers. I have the original shelf hermetically sealed in a safe place!

Contact Rod Birch. He is the 930 audio guru and has done speaker installs on just about every kind of 930 known to man. I have his "self-install" kit on my 88. While yours is slightly different Im sure he can point the way for you.
