Default Factory Slant Nose--assembly line or 'Special Wishes'

Were '87-89 Factory Slant Nose built on the regular assembly line? or were they regular fendered Turbo bodied cars that were then retrofitted with the slant nose fender/rear duct/slats??
I believe (correct me if i'm wrong), that when the Slant Noses were first made available for the European market (circa 1981?), that it was considered a "Special Wishes" conversion that was done after a regular turbo car was built. How about late 80's cars?

Also, is there such a thing as a "Factory installed steel Slant Nose Conversion" on a turbo that is not a "real" off the line Slant Nose M505?

thanks
Mike

Based on the 911 Red Book
Pre 87 it was not available as a factory option. Only via the Special wish program. Not sure how they built them when it was an option but based all the information that I have ever gotten or heard the pre M506 cars were built as normal cars and then converted as factory conversions under contract to Porsche. In the US many of these were sold as factory conversions. The first Sonderwunsch car was in 1981. Production numbers were
81 1
82 38
83 35
84 34
85 44
86 52
87 33 SONDERWUNSCH CARS and
Starting in March of 87 the M506 Option (930S) was available for the US
M506 - ROW 87 each of Coupes, Targas, and Cabs
M506 - US cars 87 each of Coupes, Targas, and Cabs
So in 87 you could have either a special wish car or a factory option car.

Everyone I have ever asked has stated that they were built as normal Turbos and then modified even after 87. However, I have never seen anything official on this. So who knows. The pre M506 option cars are really difficult to ID since there are no real records on them and there are many aftermarket conversions. I have an 85 and it has been real interesting to research. Hope this helps. Randy

Also...the VIN and the option code will ID all 87 and Post 87 cars that are true factory cars. Prior to that it is pretty open for interpretation.
