Default Strange engine number in V5

Hi,

I am restoring a '87 930. The car is an unmolested, rust free, original example (though accident damaged). The engine number at the right side of the fan housing looks correct for the car (67H000096). The vin number also states an euro spec '87 car with low number, soo I assume it was built in jan that year (I have found some german pfennig from '90 under the carpets soo I think it was a german car originaly, then at a point it was exported to the USA, and later came back to England to cover the full story )

For some unknown reason, the gb V5 states the engine number as "k221550u".

The only thing I can come up ith is that the officer was not aware of the location of the engine number, and he took a parts or casting number from somewhere on the bloc, but I cannot find it yet.

Do You have any idea?

Just a thought.

When the car came to the US, it had to be federalized (if the is the correct term). Perhaps the number you are seeing is the file number associated with importing it into the US.

I know of another instance where a Euro was imported into the US and the file number associated with the import was used as the serial number. It was a pain getting the serial number changed to the correct WP0ZZZ number when the car was registered in a different location.

Good luck
Glenn

Hi
The UK V5c does not list the engine number, only the vin number found on the chassis plate in the front trunk.

Its an old style v5, it does have the engine number. The car stood in a barn 10+ years.

Hi
Yes engine number is put on old v5. Your car could have had an engine swop or more likely the number on v5 is wrong as it doesn't coincide with any known sequence of engine numbering.
