Default 1976 930 Emblem question

My friend just bought a very low mileage 1976 930. He asked me to check with the forum regarding what would be the proper emblems for the engine cover. I have seen "turbo" and "turbo Carrera". Does anyone know what would be normal or could they be ordered either way or totally deleted? He does know that the Carrera stripe was probably not stock. He'll be getting on the forum himself once his computer is back up and running. Thanks!

Here is my first 911 Turbo. A 1976 930.

It is a hard copy I just scanned and on it I can see that it says "Turbo Carrera" on the deck lid.

(note speedy it is in my driveway as some of the other pics I posted have been - same school - not grabbed from the net as you have accused me.)

Not all cars are necessarily the same.

The first question I have is; is your friend's 1976 930 a North American or RoW build 930? From the picture it looks to be a NA car by the tail lights and bumper trim.

Usually, NA = Turbo Carrera, RoW = Turbo
But, not always, as these cars could be special ordered anyway the buyer wanted. To uncover more information you need to contact PCNA.

Agree. Mine was North American.

He is not certain. Hopes to get more info when he gets the COA and the rest of the paperwork.

Thanks for your help.

Many original Turbo Carreras have scripts that have aged to different hues. Note the Turbo Carrera script on the pictured car, the "turbo" is darker while the "carrera" is lighter (brighter).

Porsche manufactured both a Turbo and a Carrera at the time and as originally applied in 1975 as simply "turbo" or "carrera" on their respective chassis they were fine. They have now aged to their individual patinas that are not so obvious.

The differentiation from the different anodizing (different suppliers?) processing techniques on the two becomes evident on the North American '76 and '77 930's. Assembly mechanics were likely pulling parts originally intended for two different cars. Obviously the marketing guys ran ahead of the engineers on this one!

For the time being he can check the VIN.

If it begins with 930670 it is a RoW 930

If it begins with 930680 it is a North American 930

Thanks! I forgot I was also wondering if all originally came with black stone guards in front of the rear wells?

Yes, in 1976 the 930 had black stone guards (some call them shark fins).
I have seen some that were supplied uninstalled with the car. If so, you would see something like "rear foil separate" or "gravel protection separate" listed on the Monroney sticker (window sticker) if you have it or the COA when it is received.

Thanks again. You know this would be way more fun if I was asking questions about a 930 that I owned.
