Default Appraisal for Stated value insurance

I currently insure my 79' with a standard policy with Hartford. The policy coverage is for ACV. When I tried to find out what the insurance value would be in dollars I did not have much luck. They will insure with an antique policy with a stated or agreed to value with an appraisal. I contacted Pinnacle and was told they would do an appraisal through email with pictures and description. Has anyone had experience with Pinnacle?

My insurer, JC Taylor out of Pa., accommodated my request to raise the value of my 1979. They already had photos on hand, a copy of my original $40k appraisal, and I sent them the current Hagerty stats. I asked for $120k and they issued it in a few days. There are a few good insurers out there !

Wow! Would you share the premium cost? I have been quoted $460/year with $100 deductible and $45,000 stated value.

Handy930, I ran into the same issues you are with Safeco. I contacted Condon Skelly insurance and they provided me with a $70K Agreed Value policy($500K Liability, $500K un/underinsured, $5K medical) for $406 per year. No appraisal required.

When talking insurance be certain you understand the difference between "stated value" and "agreed value". A 'stated value' policy will pay either the "stated value or Actual Cash Value (ACV) WHICH EVER IS LESS". An 'agreed value' policy will pay the agreed value of the vehicle. These terms are not interchangeable. "Agreed value' policies will cost more simply because they offer more protection.

Well said, always go with Agreed Value policies.

pwhite52, thanks for the clarification on this. Md993a I will check out Condon Skelly. The other appraisal company wants over $200 for the online appraisal.

Not that much more. Since I keep a small corral of cars with them, the premium only went up about $375.00
These insurers know that we pamper our cars and sleep with the gunsafe key under our pillow. They rake in plenty , and make an occassional payout. So I guess that's how they offer competitive premiums.

Little brothers 89 930 cab had a piece of road debris kicked up that took out his Garrett ball bearing turbo and other surrounding bits. Hagerty paid for all the repairs less the deductible.

I had Hartford for my business for the last half dozen years. I rent and sell construction equipment. Hartford never pays a claim to your satisfaction.

I think I posted this in another thread but Im renewing my agreed value policy w/Safeco this month and will need to get another appraisal done. Value last year was $52k. I will probably go somewhere in the 80s this time given the latest Hagerty value guide. But Safeco is kind of being a bunch of tools about it. Not like the car has changed in terms of condition in the last 12 months. Already sent them the Hagerty price guide which is an industry standard. And yet they still want the car re-appraised again -- which will likely just say what we already know. Even then Im not sure they will go for it.

The problem Im running into is most insurers -- even collector car insurers (Ive had American Collector) in the past will not write the policy as an unmodified vehicle. Because Ive done all the normal bolt on stuff and its much faster than stock (like half of the 930s out there!) and powdercoated/polished all kinds of stuff, they will only write the policy as a modified vehicle which jumps the annual premium price up substantially. Safeco was an exception to this and would insure my modifications like-for-like if they were damaged. By some metric they use, the car was still considered un-modified.

I may have to contact the Condon Skelly folks if I dont get anywhere with Safeco. My Safeco policy was like $588/yr $52,000 value. Im guessing even if they do write it for $75-85k, it will be $800-900? When I left American Collector, I was paying over $1100/yr I think for high $40k value. Too much.

I recently got what seems to me like a good quote from Condon Skelly for my cars.
Does anyone have any experience with them, making claims, customer service, etc. ???

I'd like to add that, at least in my experience, with a "stated value" they require an appraisal but not with an "agreed value" policy. If you keep requesting higher agreed value, and when you reach their limit they will say "no".

I am in the process of renewing my policy with American Collectors. I am increasing the agreed value to $70,000. They confirmed that it is agreed value, not stated value. They asked for current pictures, which I sent. Increasing the value $30,000 increased the premium only $168, which doesn't seem to be too much. I have a 70 914-6 on the same policy with agreed value of $35,500. Total premium for both cars is $728.00.

I had American Collector for 7-8yrs. They were charging near a grand a year to insure at like $46,000. I had to drop em'.

I wish insurance carriers would show some consistency in their rates. I have one speeding ticket in my life.
