Unhappy Excessive backfire

I have noticed that of lately when decelerating or shifting gears there is a more prevalant "backfiring" than usual. I know there could be alot of reasons but anthing strike a chord here? Ed

Check the CO, sounds like it may be too lean. The leaner the system gets the more it will do this.

Sorry, European term. Backbox - rear exhaust box under rear bumper (tail pipes are contected to it).
Emptied mine after hard use (track) and it would really pop on the overrun.
