excessive oil consumption
I am sure this has been asked and answered but, I have an 88 930s that uses a qt of oil in + / - 600 miles. The car has 44,000 miles. Recently has had rings, valves and a turbo rebuild by a reputable shop. Still uses oil. No visable smoke except at start. Drop or two on the pavement occasionally. Any suggestions????
Thanks

As you know, these cars will consume oil. How much oil consumed is a function of several things. You mention number of miles. That is one factor. Perhaps one of the most important factors is your driving habits. If you are "on it" more than not, you will consume more oil than not. Weather is a factor as well as if you are doing a lot of start/stop driving (commuting - engine temps go up, you are more like to consume more oil).
Obivously, track events will consume more oil than not.
This is just my two-cents worth. I am sure others will chime in with their thougths.
I hope this helps.
BTW, my '89 930 3.4 requires a quart of oil between 900-1000 miles - I don't track and I'm not "on it" all the time.

Mine consumed a lot of oil and one of the causes we found was the way the oil plumbing for the K27 turbo was installed. When I bought it, there was no scavange pump and the oil scavange hose ran up over the exhaust before running back down to the base plate on the engine. So when it was not running, the turbo would be sitting in a pool of oil that would slowly leak through the seals.
To solve it my mechanic fabricated a small oil collection tank under the turbo. You can see these included with some of the turbo or header upgrade kits. Like this one...

My '88 930 consumes oil at about the same rate. I drive it fairly hard on the gas, with most of the miles being city. I've got a few weeping leaks at the seals, but they only amount to an occasional drop on the garage floor.
Hope this helps. At least it sounds like we're in the same boat.
