Baron
Thanks for all your advise!
My plan is to restore the car to concours condition and back to its original colors!
I have begun with the Baron's help to talk to a few restorers and decide which is the best option to bring the car to the condition it deserves!
I will post all the progress on this thread so you all can enjoy the process and give advise

Congrats on the buy(and sell to The Baron)..now with that said, that car looks beautiful as is. If it were me,I would enjoy it in it's current state. I would just refresh any mechanical and or cosmetics and call it a day. Then after some road rash down the road go all the way on a full restoration...just my two pennies

That's exactly what I have done for the past summer BUT if it is going to the 40th Anniversary for the Turbo at 2015 Monterey Historics, it will steal the show if it arrives in its original Salmon Metallic paint scheme. Most if not all others there will be in the usual "no imagination" colors ... ya know; white, black, silver, red ! !!
I think that this car deserves to be put back !

I've read this thread 3 times already and appreciate more each time. Unique car, great seller, buyer, sale, plan to restore, pics from '75 so we can imagine the restoration and of course long hair and darkened glasses in the photos which provides more authenticity than the COA.

Your 78 930 turbo may be the same color, but it was produced from 1978 to 1989. Whereas the 930 turbo carrera was only produced from 1975 to 1977. Baron's 75 turbo carrera was one of the homologation turbos that were totally hand built and one of 15 RHD 1975 turbos. A damned rare car.

The type of car people are looking after and the kind of price people are ready to pay for definitely is in the abstract and cannot / should not be explained.
This is by the way not only valid for Porsches Your car does look great

My '78 is the same factory color, but is :
-faster
-3 yrs newer
also a very low mileage and runs flawlessly.
So, why it is worth over 3x less?

Same color ? ....... Your car does not appear to be Salmon Metallic (036) special order color and I'm fairly certain that it was a '75 ONLY color unless someone were order it PTS.

For 1975-76-77 Porsche produced only 2900 3 liter non-intercooled Turbos for worldwide consumption. Most knowledgable Porsche historians agree that now after almost forty years, there are less than 2000 and possibly only +/- 1500 left in existance due to attrition ..... racing, street accidents, television stunts (Magnum PI, etc.) theft for parts.
By comparison, Porsche produced almost 10 times more 3.3 intercooled Turbos from 1978-89 ! 21,599 3.3 intercooled Turbos were produced for worldwide consumption of which +/- 90% are still around.
In the car world, over time, special features, rare colors or paint schemes have always added value to a certain model whether it was on a Porsche, Lamborghini, Corvette, Jags, Ferraris, even Mustangs & BMWs ! ........ so I would hardly single out the Porsche world as "Irrational" as 30 CSL has done.
Little nuances are also driving the '75 -'77 3.0 Turbo values up; NO intercooler, smaller brakes, single side mirror, Turbo Carrera script instead of just Turbo, 15" Fuchs and most of all the hand made whale tail as opposed to the later 2 piece production-line Turbo tail from '78^. Many people prefer the later 3.3 Turbo for these exact improvements that I just stated.
NOT TO WORRY though because there is the olde adage; ALL ships rise with the tide so any of us that currently own an "Early Turbo " whether it be a Turbo Carrera or a 3.3 Turbo should hope like hell that the '75 Turbo hits $500k because all of the rest will rise to varying degrees !

I would think that the number's of 1975-77 930 turbos still in at least original good condition worldwide (no hits, not bastardized, without tasteless ugly mods etc) would be even less than +/- 1500 worldwide. I would bet that the number of truly unmolested examples without added intercooler and added passenger side mirror(after delivery), no engine mods would be a significantly low number.
There was a time not too long ago were people(myself included) overlooked the 3.0 930's in favor of the 3.3. When I bought my first 930 in 2001, turbo carreras were not that expensive. To my regret I passed on a PTS '76 930 that was a special ordered BMW color kinda like a light purple light blue mix color that was stunning. I still have pictures of this car and vin number, if I ever find it again.

The driver’s only manual mirror was only for the ’75 930 but almost all the survivors you see today have the later ‘76+ style flag mirrors installed (including my ’75). The key is to hope the molesters didn’t hook up the power controls for the mirror (fortunately no power control was added on my driver's door panel) so you can eventually take the car back to stock by filling the passenger door holes with solder and a door re-paint (on my to do list).
Baron, the 934’s and 935’s rolled off the assembly line much later than the ’75 turbos and where do I look for a factory cut-off switch under the hood?

The 3.0 930 is also much lighter. (the 75 being the lightest of them all)
It has a different weight distribution. (the 3.3 engine was heavier and it was moved 30mm. rearwards to accomodate a revised clutch)
The 3.0 car has approx. same power/weight ratio as the 3.3 car, but the 3.0 engine has a shorter stroke and is more revy by nature.
It all ads up to a different feeling car, when compared to the 3.3.
