My buddies 1987 930 has a large loud backfire from the exhaust when he is driving. It happened 3 times and flames came out the exhaust. It happens at regular driving at no particular time.
What is the problem? fuel mixture? exhaust leak?
The car has kolken sport twin pipes and has a K27
intercooler/turbo.
Thanks for the responses!!

My '89 930 3.4 was intentionally set up a bit rich since on these cars a bit rich is a heck of a lot better than a bit lean. The car does not have a cat - it has stock headers and a 4-pipe Ruf exhaust.
When I am running the car at higher rpm and am under boost, when I lift off the gas to either up shift or down shift, I will throw flames. At night it's really cool especially to those who are behind me!! :-)
If you are bothered by the flames, you may want to lean out your fuel mixture a bit. Remember, it may be better (depending on your set up) to run a bit rich and enjoy the flames than a bit lean and risk the problems associated with running lean (i.e. detonation).
