Post Exhaust Flames?

An admittedly silly question:

What engine/exhaust setup produces the best flame out the tail pipes? I saw a RUF YellowBird doing hotlaps at Mid-Ohio a while back and every time he came off the gas a 3-4 ft plume shot out the rear. Impressive!

Running a B&B header setup with 4" dual outlets, I can see a 12" flame out of each pipe during the day. I am not running cats.

I have a GHL header and dual out muffler. I get big flames @20"+ on a shift when I am on the loud pedal.

I have an '89 930 3.4 with stock headers, no cat, and a Ruf 4 pipe exhaust. During a July 2001 engine-out tune-up, my mechanic set the car up so that at high rpm's and full boost (about .9 bar), as I depress the clutch/come off the gas for either an up-shift or a down-shift, I get about a 3 foot flame out both sides. It's kind of cool during the day, but man, is it impressive at night!

BTW, I asked the mechanic if he set up the car a bit rich. His reply was a) that it was better to be just a bit rich than a bit lean and b) 935's threw flames too (he said with a huge smile).

I think CIS just does this as it is alwas pumping fuel. The richer it is the biger the flames.

In theory, for even biger flames, Set the CO to 3.5 and try venting a C2Turbo style CBV to atmosphere.

An Andial fueler will help also.

Good luck...

I have a dual pipe millemiglia exhaust with BB headers w/o heater box. It throws flames about 2-3 foot long. I'm on 3%CO, Andial FEC set at 3rd step and at 0.9 bar boost which crreps upto 1 bar in higher gears.

I wish my C2 threw flames. Maybe i'm running to lean? How would I get that checked.

I'm running B&B headers, k29, 1 bar spring and Techart exahust. I'm going to be removing the cat within the next month. Should that help?

Ian, ditch the cat and I can almost guarantee you you'll see a flame when the throttle slams shut between shifts or when you lift close to redline.
