Hello there!
I'm a first time poster here and have started looking around for my second Porsche. My first one was when I was 16, it was an old 1979 924 plagued with ignition cylinder problems but enjoyable all the same.
I grew up with a die cast model of a 911 Turbo, the 930 model, next to my bed and would play with it every night; my walls had posters of the 959 in Arctic silver and as you can imagine, like the classic advertisement from the 80s, I've been waiting those 20 somewhat years till I had the money the get my dream car.
I apologise for the lengthy back story, I'm sure you've heard it before!
The title of this thread may seem a little strange, however, I'm looking to buy a 930 and both have been altered beyond stock: one is a 1977 930 3.0L Turbo that had been converted to well a convertible with a Porsche soft top. It has a 964 update kit, 3.3L brakes and suspension along with the 915 gearbox. This car has 223,000 Km's on the clock.
The other Frankenstein I'm looking at is a 1984 930 that was rebuilt in 1998 as a 993 GT2 with a 3.6L Turbo, lightweight GT2 body, full roll cage, a set of speed lines and pirelli's, as well as, a set of Simmons wearing Michelins.
The second car is $5k more than the first one. Would you consider either or walk away?
I know this isn't much information to go on, but I need a voice of reason to tell me what to go ahead with here.
The second looks like this:

What was done to the 77 is a crime against humanity. If it was me I would try to find one a bit closer to the way it was born. I'm methodically sourcing all the bits to take mine back to stock.

+1 for what Mussberger said. If you want to modify, the original engine offers plenty of opportunity without a swap. I would look for a stock, or slightly altered example. Value, and likely reliability will be much better.
