Maybe I have the best of both worlds? My exhaust is a GHL and my muffler is a B&B gutted with a single oulet. Sounds great and flames are not a problem.

I will vouch for the sound and flames. Excellent flame display at VIR this weekend. It sounds great also.
Jim, how did the video turn out?

I guest another question would be, if you were to have the B&B header jet hot coated would that prevent the welds from cracking? ken

I've been using B&B for not very long, about 10,000 miles with Millemiglia exhaust. So far so good. Car sounds great especially on the oull like a loud bark and shoots 2-3 foot flames. I could live with that.

To add insult to injury, I taped over most of Sat's sessions. I really like the running in the rain part. It was very nerve wracking at times.

Since my Hot Lap timer didn't work until Hugh Plumb was riding with me, I wasn't sure of my lap times. I timed off the tape though and was getting 2:18's when the track was clear.

It was good to see you there along with Brian and Dale.

Discussion is good...

It was noted that the sound was a lot different with the change. I wonder or missed - was the same muffler retained for both B&B v GLH tests?

If not, this should be conciderd as a big varaible. I'd heard that the earlyer GLH mufflers, not headers, weren't the best power makers. A 20 HP difference would be consistent with changes in muffler effecency.

Also, If a "merge" design helps power. Would think that an equal length would also help even more! However, most 930 tuners I talked to say it is not a big deal under presure with a turbo car and that short is better than effecent flow design.

Could understand a better result in off boost performance with different collectors. However once the back pressure builds on a turbo car I would not expect the collector design to make a 5% difference in HP. This is a big difference.

Just checking but, I also wonder if the pipe diamters the same? The B&B system was identified as a size I belive to be bigger than we get for our 3.3's. And, the GLH sounded like it could have been a 3.3 system that had to be modified to fit. Were they both 3.6 systems, both of the same size pipes? Different size pipe would be more suspect, if this were the case, than a change in collector design.

Just trying to make sure we are making the right conclusion as a 5% bigger hp gain for almost the same price, sans warantee, will make a big difference in future choices.

Sorry if my my non-expert brain is haveing a hard time accepting collector design as the reasion here.

I think they tested a C2 turbo, hence the larger pipe size. They did not test a 3.3 turbo so the results may or may not be the same.

C2Turbos come in 3.3 & 3.6 and B&B atleast and i Think GLH, makes two different size pips that I think work on both models.

Without confirming if the pipes were differt sizes and if the same muffler was used for both tests (didn't sould like it)I do not think that the above Dyno tests should be acepted to conclued that the B&B "header" will make more HP. To many unacounted for varables.

I would like to belive that the B&B is better as that is what I am running.

No one ever seems to compare sound in decibels between mufflers, after all a muffler is supposed to muffle and resonance can be very tiring on a long cruise. Loud does not necessarily translate into power it just indicates a poorly designed muffler. So which mufflers out there provide a reasonable compromise between sound and power. GHL, B&B, Fabspeed, Borla etc. ?
