It won't? They want 38K for a car that has had a marginal respray and needs at least another 20K dumped into it to make it drivable.

Is it safe to assume you have seen this car in person? From the pics the paint looks good? Why $20k to make it driveable? I'm not trying to be a smart a$$ but just curious as to how you reached to that conclusion?

Yeah, ppi says "no compression" among a bunch of other little things. It does look nice in photos though. Could be rehabbed into a nice original example, but its going to take some time and money.

Came across this car today, no affilation, Didn't see a $38k asking price, just a $17K bid. IMHO the 78-79 cars are moving right up there with the 76-77 cars value wise.

Here is a 79 930, two owner, unmolested car that at worst suffers from neglect. If you can buy right, say $35K and using your $20K # to make it right, you will have a documented, two owner, low miles car for$55K. Whats wrong with that?

Admittedly I don't follow the 930 market very closely, but is a nice, unmolested but repainted, driver 79 930 with 50K miles really worth $55K? I would've thought this car would be in the mid to upper 30s not the mid 50s.

Didn't say that, I said if you could buy it for $35K , put $20k into it, you would hav an unmolested two owner 79 930 with records, and yes THAt would be worth $55K. The entire 930 market has gone crazy. They just didn't make that many.

Yeah the "no compression" and "less then 1 bar of oil pressure when warm" scream that it needs work. That ain't no $35K car... with the work it needs probably worth $25K~ Still a very nice car though.

As a new owner of an 84 930, I think $20K might be low given all the unknowns of these older cars. Granted it doesn’t need a complete paint job as my car. And it might not be getting as much suspension and interior work as I plan?

I’m looking at:
$10-12K body work and paint
$6K suspension (Elephant Racing - upgrading a few things)
$3K interior
$3-5K engine refresh (it could be more)
$1K new rubber seals
$1K wheel refinish

I’m estimating upwards of $30K for a complete restoration. I figured on some of this as I was looking at purchasing it. I would love to think that my car would then be worth $55K!!!!!

I'm with you on the '79's being a 'special' year, that is why I went after one that I used to own and managed to acquire it back. Mine is a spectacular original with everything stock and near perfect condition, including original paint = incredible. I was thinking of selling it, as I have to sell something and the demand for a car like this is HOT right now. I don't belong to any clubs, groups, etc....but my car sense tells me there can't be but a dozen worldwide or less that could be THIS clean, this original from '79. What would this car bring$$ right now? and in your estimation down the road as well? Thanks...here is a photo, havent shared any yet. The ONLY thing I am going to get worked on is changing the engine compartment sound deadening pad as mine is shabby, and fresh fuel lines for saftey, those on this car are 33 years old!

ps, mileage is 59K and only flaw is a little warpage on dash, but no cracks, was thinking this could be remedied?

Uhmmmm...I think they meant no "spare tire" compressor, and all of our cars are sitting at about 1BAR oil pressure when warm & at idle.

+1 Like I said the only thing this car suffers from is neglect. The over spray does not necessarily mean a complete re-paint . my post was ment as a heads up for a nice car, not an indrorsment for this car. bottom linr, these cars don't come along that often.
