Default Piston Ring Orientation

I am reading conflicting information on the orientation of the piston rings. Installing new Mahle P&C's. All say Oil ring gap on top. Compression rings differ. Some say gaps 180 degrees apart, some say 120 degrees. And do not line up with the wrist pin. What is the correct way?

Not sure it's the same, but in a small block chevy racing engine, if the wrist pin goes from 3 to 9 o'clock, then set one gap at 12 and the other at 6.
