G50 in my car - 1989 G50/50 in a 1982.

Shift action is the best of ANY car I have ever driven
Extra gear is worthless, completely worthless -

Labor is intensive.

Wow. I like my system a lot, but it does not hold a candle to some non-Porsche gearboxes I've driven. I remember an early 90's NSX I drove--that shifter was snickety smooth, great throws, perfect effort. My G50 is nowhere near that.

I kinda like the 5th gear for getting better gas mileage on the highway. On trips to the track Otherwise, it doesn't do a thing for me, either.

A WEVO G50 will utterly tranform your G50 - it is absolutely, unbelievably incredibly a HUGE improvement.

Have one on my G50

I agree. I have one on my G50. Makes the shift planes very consistent, the throws shorter, engagment more positive and much tighter, all without adding a whole lot of effort. The distance from a stock cable 930 box to a hydraulic G50 with a Wevo kit is a long way.

It still ain't no NSX box, for example, but now it's not an irritant any more.

A real common upgrade for the G50/50 and G50/52 turbo gearboxes is to install the 3,4, and 5 (or just the 5th) from the NA 5spd gearbox. The gears are a touch shorter, making for even quicker acceleration. Contrary to some internet rumours there is zero strength difference between the NA and the Turbo gears.

Oftentimes, you can get the gears as a straight even exchange swap with one of the guys putting together an Ultima or FF GTM using a G50/00 thru G50/05because those guys are all running big v8's that really need to be geared lower because of their lower powerband and rpms. If you time it with when you need to do a clutch job, all it really costs you is the labor to install the gears in the box, and some seals.

Just something to consider for those of you who do have a Turbo G50 swapped into your car (or an original factory car) and don't want to spend a $1000 a pop to regear it with all new aftermarket gearsets.

Hi guys, i too have often wondered about swapping out the 4 speed for a G50. is there anything that can be done to the 4speed to speed up the way it shifts? I have a short shifter (dont know what brand)and have wanted to install the Harget. think it looks cool. my car is converted to EFI, 525hp 630Nm torque any advice? Alex
