Default 930 Turbo Oil Pump Belt

Hello,

I am new owner of a 1986 Weissgold metallic 930 and had a question about the turbo oil pump. I noticed it is activated via a belt in the front-side of the engine. Has anyone had this belt replaced? Looks like you would need to do an engine drop to get access. Would that be correct? My 930 has 117k on the clock. It seems like it's running fairly smooth but I'm still getting use to it since I was accustomed to a 911SC prior to this monster.

Thanks

The turbo scavenge oil pump is direct-driven off the cam. The belt you're referring to is to run the smog air injection pump.

Thanks for the reply although I am referring to the unit mentioned in a 930 shop manual as the "Turbocharger Oil Pump". My description probably could be better. It is behind the engine towrds the front of the car.

The pump is directly driven by the left side cam. The pump butts right up against the cam as you can see in the picture and is driven by a couple of "dogs" or pins on the end of the cam. The sprocket and the belt it drives is just for the air pump which sits on top of the engine directly above the cam. The pump isn't activated by the belt...in fact, it's the other way around.

Unless you're required to have emissions tests in your area, many 930 owners (myself included) have deleted the air pump all together. The easy wah to do that is to just cut the belt and remove it.
