Yes Ruf is a Manufacturer and thus would get its own VIN number if its a converted car then it is a Porsche VIN#

Ruf was not yet a manufacturer when he started building BTRs however there are a number of BTRs in later years with Ruf VINs and those numbers are very low. The CTR saw the full body in white for 29-33 cars and a lot more conversions.

I suggest you contact Ruf Pfaffenhausen quoting the Ruf ID tag number from your car. They should be able to provide the data concerning its conversion.
Just to clarify, Ruf Automobile GmbH became a recognized automobile manufacturer in 1981 and the first car to carry a unique Ruf chassis (VIN) number was a 1983 Ruf 3.4 liter BTR model.

I am interesting in this car as member RUFCAR is selling it. Was hoping to ask the same questions regarding its history, if anyone can please help further that would be great!
