Ok guys- I recently - tonight- had my 86 951 doors apart to replace gaskets and fix a weak window switch attachment point ( **** I know) and realized that the flag mirrors not only did not have the same base as the catalog said (85.5 and up) but have the same as my 85 euro 930. It raises the question, can my 85 930 euro flags be removed without cutting the wires? I have a set of areos painted and waiting but have not gotten around to it and now are concerned. The 951s had plugs too big to pass through the door and the cable was attached to a "Y" that fed the window switch so the only way to remove was to destroy the connector by pushing out the pins or cut the feed wire.....
Help- I do not want to cut my 35K mile car for some cool mirrors..... suggestions?
Cheers, Mike

Harbor freight usually has the electrical disconnector tool cheap. Also you can get them at eagle day, or ebay. I bought a kit of ebay which, ironically, is identical to the $200 snap on kit, for about 40 bucks.

I bought one at the local auto store Pep Bpys that was a hair too big. I chucked it into a hand drill by its handle and spun it in 220 grit sand paper until it was the right size. Total cost $6. Be aware that there is a good chance you may damage the connector while disconnecting the pins but you can fix it with epoxy after you finish what you are doing. If a female pin breaks out of the connector you can just solder the two ends together as a final chore. If everything on the Pcar was as badly designed as the mirror and its internals, they would have never started WW II.

Thanks for all the replys.. I am assuming we are all talking about removing the mirror glass, removing the heat wires and tilt motor and then pushing the wires out of the mirror assy plug- leaving all wiring with the car correct? can I then push the wires into the areo connector....?? I need to look at how the areos come apart.
Thanks for the help- off to the store- Cheers, Mike

If all you want to do is replace the gasket you can simply cut it on the bottom edge and then put some super glue on before you put the mirror back on. Yes you can push the wire through the mirror base.
