Default How to bench test a wastegate

I need some help with bench testing my stock wastegate.

I understand that I need 20PSI to test the function but how is the air applied to the wastegate? In other words, how do you seal off to wastegate body to apply the pressure to the valve?

Thanks

Default Hmmmm......

....that's a good question. I don't know that there is anyway to simulate the amount of pressure the exhaust flow would normally have on the valve. If you suspect the WG as being faulty, the best way I know of testing is in the car - by applying .8 bar of compressed air and listening for it to open. I've bench tested mine before and at first got concerned that it took well over .8 bar to open the valve....until I got educated (someone at Tial) that the exhaust pressure had an additive affect with the boost air pressure to open the valve.

Don't apply 20 psi....it'll invert the diaphragm.
Just hook the air up to the bottom port and apply x psi depending on what spring you have in the wastegate.
When I tested mine I could hear the air leaking past the valve guide big time. I went and bought a Tial.

Which is exactly why I changed over to a Tial as well.

Check with ARD....he rigged up a pressure gauge to set the and synchronize the new wastegates springs to the right PSI on my car (8.5 psi)...he did it for me and it was a home made jerry rig ...but worked great. He's got a good grasp on this subject and can probably give you an answer to this.
