Default Big HP Excellence article

Eddie Bello 964 with amazing numbers and times for quartermiles and the Texas mile. we are talking 917/10 type horsepower. Check out the pictures etc. I know very little about Bello except he had a legendary slant at one time. I also have no affiliation with Excellence except for the fact I am happy when it appears in my mail box.

I think he went to jail as part of a high-end car theft ring. I heard he got out a couple years ago but hadnt heard much since.

It's a great article in the new edition. Well worth a buy if you don't subscribe. Best edition of that rag in quite some time IMO.

He was charged but no jail and the charges were dismissed.

(WCBS) (NEW YORK) 2001/03/26 18:19:00 US/Eastern

There won't be any more laps around the track for a well-known drag racer from the Bronx, who was among three body shop owners arrested in connection with the theft of luxury cars from Westchester, WCBS 880's Marla Diamond reports.

Eddie Bello, 35, who has won fame with souped-up Porsches on the import drag-racing circuit, was arraigned Saturday in Mount Vernon on a charge of illegal possession of a vehicle identification number, District Attorney Jeanine Pirro said.

Bello, known as the East Coast Assassin in drag racing circles, owns Bellotech Performance on McQuesten Parkway in Mount Vernon, where he works on his racer and other cars. The owners of two neighboring shops also were charged with the same felony: Robert Benedettini, 42, of Yonkers, owner of Star Auto Body, and Anton Shkreli, 33, of the Bronx, owner of Evropa Motors.

Pirro said investigators at Bello's shop seized two Porsche engines and two Porsche transmissions, all with defaced identification numbers. At Evropa, they took two Porsches with defaced identification numbers, plus a Mecedes Benz engine and five air bags, similarly defaced, she said. They also found an illegal 9 mm handgun, the district attorney said. And at Star Auto Body, they seized a partially dismantled and defaced Lexus sports utility vehicle and a small amount of the drug Ecstasy, she said.

Pirro said the arrests stemmed from the investigation of a stolen-car ring that had specialized in swiping luxury vehicles from Westchester driveways and parking lots and shipping them to Asia. Eight men were arrested last month.

Illegal possession of a vehicle identification number is punishable by up to four years in prison. More charges could be filed, says Pirro, if the men were shipping auto parts internationally.

Last year, Today's NHRA magazine, which covers the National Hot Rod Association, said Bello, driving a white Porsche 911, had reached 161 mph while covering a quarter-mile in 9.17 seconds.

cut the guy some slack, I'm sure we have other members on this forum with questionable pasts. we don't know the REAL story and besides, we should let it go.

i was more surprised by the verified numbers and performance than anything else. He did one run with his toolbox etc. in the back of the car. To produce that kind of performance while on a shoestring budget is amazing. One more thing---he drove the car to the track in these events.

So the fastest Porsche guy around is also of questionable character. I guess that is the way the dice roll sometimes. I still like that somebody is representing Porsches well in drag racing.

I met him many years ago at an NIRA event at the now PBIR. He was very nice to speak with but declined to divulge the details of his cars' power. At the time he was still a street racer from NYC so I understood his decision. I believe that was when he was in a previous slant nose. I've seen YouTube videos from The Mile from last year (I think) where the sunroof blows out of his car and he still manages 200MPH +. Keep in mind that you only have 1 mile to reach VMAX. Very fast indeed..........

I believe the 1157hp motor was done with help from HKS. Also I believe he ran the car on alcohol or methanol to help make the power.

I remember seeing him on Supercars Exposed, in the Fastest Street Car Shootout 2008. He killed everyone.
