Default Amazing..Our 930 Cars Are Now About The Same As 996TT? Pics

Linda Richman here and its time for..C-A-W-F-E-E T-A-L-K...

So handosme young men.... the 996TT are now in the $35k-$40K range...same as a well sorted, well maintainted 930...gulp that is absolutely tempting. Never was a big fan of the 996, but a TT version for the same price as an '89 930..does lure me in all honesty! (although I would never sell my 930)

What do you guys think?

Case 1: Here this one is an '01 with 53K for $38K (it even has sport seats!), they might even take $35K for it!!:

Case 2: Here this one is an '01 with 63K for $39,900 (brand new tires, nice stereao and a few upgrades), it is a Tiptronic though:

Case 3: Here this one is an '01 with 55K for $39,995 (Sport Seats, Ruf Suspension, Rollbar, harnesses and a few other upgrades):

Case 4: Here this one is an '02 with ONLY 37K for $35,000 (it is a Tip though):

Anyways guys you get the drift!

Discuss amongst yourselves until you start feeling verclempt.

I have been watching more as a measuring tool for the 930 value. Were there rear seal oil leak issues with thiese? Either way it is an excellent sign for 930 appreciation. However, given the economic situation combined with frozen credit I don`t think much is moving anywhere.

I don't think the average 930 is worth 35-40 now...that is the top end. Most 996tt are still in the 45-55 range, with only a few down in the sub 40 range. the reason is simple...over production. There are ~5x as many 996tt as there are 993tt.

If you are going to drive the car regularly, the 996tt is superior in every way. Oh sure, people will claim it is not a "raw" or doesn't have the same feel, but come on, its a better car. More power, less lag, better cooling, better suspension, better bakes...better everything!

With the prices coming down, I suspect that other turbo models value will decline as well. Many people will step up to the 996tt rather than get a similarly priced 964t or 930. The rare cars like the 3.6t and the 89s will likely hold their value a bit better.

Now I am sure that 30 other posters will now point out why the 930 is better and why they would never sell their 930. I think it comes down to use. For a limited use car, any of the turbos will be great. But for a daily driver, the 996tt is the clear winner. For a race car, it depends on the budget as the 996tt will be far more expensive to prepare & maintain (speed costs $s).

supply and demand no argument from me. Most comments I get are from new Turbo owners who wish they had never gotten rid of the old 930. Something about the fun factor. We could also look at the Ferrari market where the old ones are amazingly valuable and nowhere near as fast and a total pain in the *** to keep even semi in tune. The new ones are faster ,more dependable, and even usable as daily drivers. But again supply and demand. they aren`t making anymore Super Americas,Daytonas,275GTBs or,for that matter, 930s either.

As I was picking up my 930 from the PO's house, he had his 'new' 04 996tt, and handed me the keys saying, "you know, the 996 doesn't have the character the 930 has..."

I am truly blessed to have one of each (88 930, other than a Zork tube, pretty much stock 250 hp at the wheels; 02 996TT X50 with 1 bar chip from UMW, GT3 seats, 6 point harness, Te equipment roll bar, GT3 single mass flywheel, Agency Power airbox, carbon fiber interior-over 500 hp at the wheels) and I truly enjoy both of them.
The 996 is far superior for everyday use, and long trips. I also track it about once a month, and it's a blast! Other than regular maintenance, no issues.
The 930 is a much more primal driving experience, IMHO. I love the total "kick in your butt" feel once the turbo spools up. The sound of the Zork is orgasmic.
Which one do I enjoy driving more? The 930, hands down.
The prices on 996TT keep going down almost everyday! Now is truly the moment to buy one of these. You get supercar performance at the price of a japanese import!

Haha, i'm looking at one for the wife's daily driver. I'm going to bite when they dip into the $40's for most examples.

+1 The 996TT is my next buy. I'll wait another year or so before I bite the bullet unless the economy allows early entry...

I would like to buy a newer Porsche to kick around a bit, but they don't really do much for me in general.

I really can't think of too much that my 930 is lacking in the thrill ride category.

As far as transportation from point A to B, I am sure a newer Porsche will be better served.

IMO, I do not like the front end look of the 993/996...something about Boxter headlights. Nothing beats the beauty of a 930! To tell the truth, I'm not a big fan of the slantnose either, but that's just my $.02.

A guy over at the 996TT forum just got an 02 for 42K! With CPO and everything! I'm telling you, now is the moment to get one of these.

Or next year when the 02 is a year older.

If you look at the 'completed' list on ebay, only 1-2 cars for every page of 50 cars is selling at these low prices. 50% of the porsches that sell are old school 911/944/928/356 for under 20 grand and the other half is boxsters/caymans/carreras for under 25 grand.

The only 996TT or cayennes that sell are basically the ones being given away. Turbo Cayennes are getting 30 grand or less. That is a $100,000 car sold as new 3-4 years ago.

This is a lively auction for a 2003 X50 996TT, bidding with no reserve.

If you can live with your 930 as the turbo toy, you can get a normally aspirated newer 911 for much less even then the TTs slownrusty posted about. If you're leaning towards a daily driver, they make a lot of sense. I drove my BIL's '08 911 S and there was ZERO to complain about (other than the lack of an exhaust note).
