Default Time For Tires...

I know that many of you have posted up in the past about tires, but I looked at my car the other day and noticed that it was just about that time. This will be my first time putting tires on my 930, and I was thinking about going with something other than the Bridgestones currently on the car.

I wanted to start a new thread simply about tires and get some imput from those of you with experience buying tires for your 930.

Any recommendations? My car sees around 500 miles or less a year (simply don't have the time to drive it that I used to), and I am willing to sacrifice longevity for performance...

I just bought my first set about a month ago. I have 315/35/17's on the rear and 245/45/17s on the front. I was going to get goodyears, but the 315's were on national back order. Tirerack only had one selection and that was Sumitomo's. They were 99 each for the rears an 69 I beleive for the fronts. I am amazed at how well these tires perform for such a cheap price...

JG--

Those are my tire sizes as well. Have you tried fitting 255s up front? If you track your car, you might like the results a little better. I've squeezed them in there, and turn-in IS better.

What size wheels are you running? 16s will have limited applications.

Yes...16s do have limited options especially if you're running the stock 245/45/16s. There are only about three manufacturers who offer that size....Unfortunately, Michelin quit making that size. I ended up going with the Bridgestone Potenza 750 E...

I know I will be buying bigger rims next year to fit bigger brakes, so for now I just bought Hankook Ventus tires, 245/45/16 rear and 225 fronts, I only paid about $500 mounted and balanced, had a local highend shop mount and balance them, decentstreet tires, broke them loose in a slow corner stomping on it in 2nd, kind of drifting tires, but decent for the money and disposability. My rears are not quite a square edge, but more of a taper in, so I would maybe go one size wider, 255 or 265 on rears.

Have you tracked the car on the Sumitomo's? I'm curious how they do on the track. I saw a post on Pelican saying they go South after a few heat cycles.

I don't track my car, but I do drive it hard. so far no problems. I will buy these tires again, and will probally buy a set for my Z06 as well since the costs are way lower.

i am on my second set of goodrich takdw's i have 285's on the back and 235's on the front. they wear prtty good very good traction the first set only really needed the rears replaced but I had 225's on the front which caused understear at the track and the front brakes kept trying to lock up. the other benifit is they are good in the rain and when it rains here in miami it rains in buckets.
