HELP in the middle of the action...I started working on replacing the cv boot on the wheel side and ready to take the whole thing appart BUT realized that there are ALSO six allen bolts there. Should I be able to take those off in addition to the trans six and the entire Axle might come off without removing the rear axle outer nut which is PITA?
Every thread in here says that the outer cv is connected to the wheel shaft or not?

 

Not sure what year you have, but I replaced my axles on an 86 930 and the entire unit drops out after removing allen head bolts at each end of axle.

 

It is a 78-930. I already loosen them all up.

Do the spliners go back on a particular position?
