Sorry to see you go- went through the same stage a few years back, Mine are both now out of college and out of the house, it's amazing how much extra time and money seems to be around.... miss the kids though, my wife's "empty nest" is a little harder for her to handle. Good Luck- regards, Mike

I did the same thing a few years back when my daughter became a fast pitch softball pitcher. I sold my car toys and bought a motor home to transport the team to and from their games. It was one of the most pleasant things I have ever done in my entire life. Enjoy them while they are still "Yours".

Have you asked those two kids what they think of you selling the car? Just curious. You might find they think their dad is pretty cool with a car like that. If they are boys, you know they are eyeing it for their own.
I have 4 kids, 10 and under. They love the car, but track days are out now. I went once last year and will insist on one, but only one, this year.
My bet is you would have trouble getting $42k for it. Why give it away? You could always return it to street duty.

They wish the car was a street car and nothing more, but then they aren't into cars AT ALL. My 12 year old son said I was making the right decision. They are with Mom in that they think I spend to much time and money on the car, not to mention that I love it more than them. I've been working on cars since I was 15. Can't a guy have a hobby he's loved for 35 years?
In a few years he'll be begging for a car like this...

Tell them what I tell Susan Jimbo - "I love you both the same" (Susan and the car).
Now that we have Reagan (our puppy) - she says I love him more than I do her - so I use that same line then also "I love you both the same"
Drives her crazy

Personally, I would be tempted to just keep the car instead of taking a $25,000 loss. If you just wait it out, the market will strengthen in a couple years and by then your son will be old enough to drive. Maybe he will come around.
Do what is best for you as well. Your kids will be gone in a few years. Mentally they will be gone by the time high school rolls around.
Why not compromise and agree not to spend money on the car for a couple years and just drive it?
