Default Addressing the poor frontal lighting!

So like many 930 owners, i've never been a fan of the poor light projected off the front of these cars. having already upgraded to the Euro H4s and being pleased with the results it was time to address the candles some call fog lights....

so inline with Yellow bird bumpers i looked around at various companies that made aftermarket fogs. working with 3.45"x7.15" opening on the Ruf bumpers designed for the factory fogs, leaves very few options that will fit. the option i decided on was a Piaa 940 dual beam fog/driving light.

(yes i know the lens on the passenger side is cracked, it came like that! )

seeing as the RUF bumpers were made for the factory candle-powered fogs i needed to do some modifications and basic fabrication.

still not 100% finished, need to slot the mounting points on the boxes to get the lights perfectly centered. I have already run the harness so that the factory fog light *** will operate the yellow fogs and the high beams will also turn on the driving lights for extra light. all through a fused and relayed harness i built so the factory harness and fuses do not take any extra load.

hope to have some functioning pics later this week...

Very cool, kudos to your efforts!

I'm a huge fan of the PIAA products, I ran the oldoldoldold version of those same lights in the OE grille mounts of my 10000 year old Volvo 242GT and was GIDDY. Back then they were 90w yellow fogs / 115w white hi's (could not run simultaneous).

Flipping on the 115s would seemingly melt paint off cars in front of you, headliners, etc. Fun times. I Have never been thrilled with the road they've since gone down with their visual appeal, seems to address more the ricer demand - but still highly effective products.

Nothing like good light. I'll address mine, someday.

Good luck with the rest, report back.

so i have everything wired up and working now, just need to do a little finishing work tucking everything away and making it look neat and tidy... hopefully i will have some finished pics tomorrow!
Bumpers and car still need to go to paint, i just wanted everything done and fitted before paint so i don't fubar it doing it after! :P

i'm using a custom H4 headlight harness i use on standard headlights for the fogs rather than the Piaa system... nothing wrong with the Piaa system but i really hate the look of the switch. the harness i use is an upgrade for normal H4s and uses 12ga wiring, dual 20a fuses and dual Bosch 30a relays to put as much power to the bulbs as possible. it uses the factory wires as triggers for the relays which then send direct battery voltage and power to the bulbs = GREAT light output! the best part about these harnesses is when the highs are switched it it keeps the lows on as well! Just needed to modify both harnesses so i could keep the Piaa quick connector for when i take the bumper off!
with all this, i'm using the factory foglight harness as my trigger for the Yellow Fogs and then ran a wire from the extra port on the highbeam terminal in the fuse panel to trigger the driving lights. but with how they are wired up in the harness, when the highbeams come on, the driving lights turn on of course but so do the fogs!

having it wired like this puts no extra load on any of the fuses from my past exp with this harness.Plus the lack of some ugly toggle switch on the dash and Piaa's funky way of wiring the lights is nothing but smiles for me!

if you have any questions about the wiring i'll do my best to answer them, i'm not the best at explaining electrical stuff. :P
