Default 1984 Porsche 930 (Jap Import) questions

Hey Guys, can someone please try and answer these few questions for me?

1984 Porsche 930 Turbo

1. Has a very quiet whine in transmission, the fatser u go the quieter it gets, is this a major concern or are these 4 speeds known for it.

2. Pasty Oil in Oil filler. Why? Condensation from the heat?

3. What kind of brake calipers does this car have on it? Are they 4 pistons or 2?

4. After switching engine off it runs on for a bit, any ideas what this could be?

5. Do the injectors on these give much trouble?

6. Its done 73.000Km, Is that a good mileage for one of these without having to worry about anything major?

7. Someone told me this was a 320hp motor in this car but I thought it was just 300hp, could he be right? He is a Porsche expert but I didnt even know they made 320hp, I thought it was 275hp then 285hp then 300hp and then 330hp, am I wrong?

8. Its limitied slip differential right?

Any help is much appreciated, cheers

2. I think short journeys cause this condensation.

4. It is meant to run on for 1 second or so. The idea is to burn all the fuel in the engine.

1. Should not have a whine at all! Try doing a fluid change with fresh 75W90 Amsoil Synthetic or Redline Synthetic or even Swepco and see what happens.

2. Possible...do a fresh oil and filter change and go for a long run and see if there are any changes.

3. 4Piston front and rear - aluminum calipers made by Brembo for Porsche.

4. Should NOT run on!!!!! I am shocked by Nathan's reply..!

5. Injectors are not a problem.

6. Loaded question....its car ownership...if the car has been well maintained - then great. If it has been abused and neglected...well you can figure that one out, and your banker will happily help.

7. Euro cars are 300hp, US spec cars are 282hp this is from '79 to '89! You friend is not much of a "Porsche Expert".

8. Ltd Slip were an option, jack up the car and spin the rear wheels, both will spin in the same direction if it has a LSD.

Don't be. The 930 engines have a time delay circuit which runs the engine an additional 2-3 seconds when the ignition is turned off to clear all the gas out of the injector lines to prevent the cylinders from being washed down and oil contamination.

Run on...as in dieseling/pre-ignition, or just plain old continuing to run in a normal fashion? Two hugely different things. Nathan and Werk-I are both correct (and Slownrusty is just givng Nathan crap I suspect :-)

My 930 only ran for about 1 second when shutting off via the ignition key. My turbo timer runs for ages

Please excuse if I hijack this thread for a second. On the topic of continuing to run for a couple of seconds....can anyone tell me where the timer relay is located? I getting very little if any running-on when switching off. Might be a fraction of a second, but hard to tell.

Thanks Rocket. I think I also have that diagram in my 930 "library", but I've never been able to find the exact diagram of the engine compartment relays specific to the 930. Corrrect me if I'm wrong, but is the diagram you posted for a normally aspirated Carrera? For instance, my yellow overboost relay is tall and rectangular, not like the squatty little cans in the picture.
I'll look for the silver rectangular one, and see if it's working properly for the timed run-on. Thanks again.

4. After switching engine off it runs on for a bit, any ideas what this could be?

Car could also have an old "Turbo Timer" on it. In the 80/90s a lot of guys put these on the 930s. Allows the car to run at idle up to a minute I believe after removal of key. Idea was supposed to be letting the turbo spin down while still flowing oil to it to preserve the bushing//bearing.

Mark, I think certain years of cars are different. I have a feeling that my relay which holds on the ignition for around 1 second is a small silver box approx 1" square.
My car is far from stock though

Mine looks like #5 and is in that position, but the overboost relay is in position #2 and is yellow and square.

Here's two more versions:

*****Just realized the first picture below has the delayed ignition cut off relay, where as my post above didn't.
