From a puff can:
Russell "Frame Epoxy" #5144 Black chassis paint.
Also,
PJ1 motorcycle case paint from a motorcycle shop works well and is tough stuff.
scuffing the aluminum or magnesium with a scotch brite pad and priming it first with puff can zinc chromate primer will make it stick and last longer.
Or use automotive urethane enamel from a spray gun.

I used Rust Oleum black appliance epoxy. Came out beautifully - smooth, wet-look and durable. I've had no issues thus far.
I stripped the old paint with MarHyde TalStrip and a brass wire brush first (paint falls right off), then removed the anodizing from the outer lips w/ extra strength EasyOff oven cleaner (took about 3 coats), since I polished the lips at the same time that I refinished. Primed the centers with zinc chromate metal primer.
