Has anyone here driven a 930 with a sequential shift transmission?
I know there are some track cars out there that have them.
To me, that would be the ultimate transmission set up for the 930. You could keep the car on boost and bang gears as fast as you can shift. I think it would be way better than any H pattern gearbox. I know from riding sport bikes that you can always be in the right gear because shifting is so buttery smooth and fast.
I just wondered who has driven such a car, that's all.

That is an interesting thought... I have driven an E36 M3 that had a sequential box and it was awesome!!
- Had never thought of that in a 930.. probably because $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yes, I have one in my garage that I bought from a fellow Rennlister, Jean. The gearbox started out as a G50/80 (a 6 speed for 993GT2EVO cars) and was modified to a sequential by GT Ltd which is owned by Ricardo. The bolt pattern is a bit different from the other so GT2 axles (shown in the pics below) are also required. Tony Callas told me that this gearbox had been in the #64 car in 1998 Le Mans race. At the time he worked for Roock racing in Germany.Naturally it's seen a lot of other races as well.

I naturally don't know the answer myself but I have been told that with all the Ricardo components it is pretty strong. I think the G50/80 was already a strengthened version of the preceding G50/xx versions to cope with the GT2EVO power. I am sure someone with actual experience with these gearboxes would know better.

I've never driven a 930 with a sequential, but I have driven a GT3 RSR with it for a couple of laps "warming it up" for a test session before the real drivers got in it. Since it isn't turbo'd I don't know what the issues with the boost and everything would be, but it was a slick piece in the NA version. The only other thing I know is it ain't cheap.

Holy crap! I can't even imagine what that would be like. Really, with not only the 930, but with any car that makes good horsepower in the upper rpms. Just keep the pedal to the floor and bang away.
Of course, I imagine there would be a lot more wrecked 930s out there had Porsche made this standard equipment !

The early and even some sequential gearboxes these days do not have the "shift without lift" gear change technology. You are entering into an engine management system issue with the needed ignition cut out feature for this advantage not to forget about the weaknesses in the drive train...Unless of course you have plenty of money to throw at your 930.

Sorry Olli,
What I was asking was if a Hewland tranny would cope with a 930 at the strip.
Anyone know?
Olli, I think your tranny would be fine for awhile. Not sure if it is as strong as a 50/50 or 50/52 though.
