I've had SC cams handle right at 400rwhp on my car, but that was with lots of modifications. There are two things important to cams on a Porsche forced induction system - cam timing and cam synch (side to side). I advanced my cams quite a bit to get the turbo spinning and they worked well. I then went to 964 cams which gave me more top end, but not a lot more. Now with EFI, I run GTII cams.

By the way, 360 hp is very respectable.

It takes about 20 hours. There are all sorts of variants to cams these days and the standard SC or 964 can be changed to accommodate many needs.

And that's 20 hours if you don't get caught up in "While I'm in there..." Ask me how I know. I'm doing a cam replacement right now and I am just doing the little things that need to be done to correct previous mistakes. It's a good thing I like playing with this car, cause I'm doing a lot of it!

what should the cam timings be in a stock 930 with SC cams installed? What kinda improvements are we looking at with a stock car with CIS? Thanks..

I run about 1.7mm of overlap TDC. The SC cams will provide a bit more low end grunt. Without headers and turbocharger upgrades, the gain will be modest.

Yes, numerous 930 owners report better results if you keep the SC cam timing on the high side(1.7mm), i.e. more advanced.

I'm finding there are all sorts of custom cam grinds available for our 930 breed. If I had more time I'd love to chart the various versions I've found. Still haven't decided which is best for me yet though.

FWIW, I found this excellent explanation helpful in my understanding of the process:

Cheers!

I know I've asked about this before, but when the SC cams go in, are there any other changes needed? I ask because I have never gotten my car to run right, and I have SC cams set at 1.6 on both banks of cylinders. Lots of power and smooth over 3,000 rpm, balky and inefficient (low mpg) below 3,000. I see boost before 2,500. I am planning to go back to stock cams this winter. My basic problem is that my car (77 3.0) ran badly, and had a worn turbo, when I bought it, so I don't have good baseline for comparison.

Of course, I've spent lots of time trying to find the usual suspects, e.g., vacuum leaks, fuel pressure issues and ignition timing, without finding the culprit for my running issues, hence the hunch that it is the cams.
