I'm having it done and the shop is running into some fitment issues, specifically the transmission and the torsion tube being too close to each other. The shop will get it ironed out but as I like to learn and hate being totally clueless I was hoping someone here can give me some info on what they did to make it work.
Thanks!
Thanks!

It has been done on my '81 930. I am guessing that my tranny has been shortened. Special brackets have been welded to my car that the 2 long bolts that go through the rubber mountings screw into. The large bracket that holds the mountings was modified, where it mounts to the tranny it is a lot further back (towards the engine). My car has not been cut at all I promise you.
Oh, which G50 do you have? Mine is a G50/01.

That's what I think the problem is, the motor and transmission mounts need to be slightly modified. Mine is a shortened G50/0x also (not a G50/50) with a LSD. I'll see what he comes up with, I think Patrick Motorsports is involved now.

I bought my shortened G50/50 from Jim Patrick, he really knows his transmissions. The engine tin will need to be modified and the mounts for the engine and trans will need to be moved back as well.

I installed a G50 in my SC. I know the 3.3 930's have a longer engine compartment. So a shortened g50 should go right in. I had to mod the front and rear motor mounts and move the motor back .75". The tranny to the torsion tube clearance is very tight. Maybe .25" or just enough so it doesn't hit.
I am surprised your shop is having a problem. Who shortened the tranny?

I believe it came from Patrick Motorsports and was previously IN a 930, hence the shop scratching there heads. I'm confident it will be solved next week and it's likely a modified mount that will be the solution. Can't wait to get her back...

A guy recently on here found that his hadn't been shortened properly. When he called them they said they don't make mistakes
They didn't apologise, but they did put it right.

I am "that guy" since then Jim Patrick has been exceedingly gracious and the employee who made the mistake is no longer at the shop. As it turned out the main shaft was not properly machined and it would not fit the pilot bearing sent the tranny back to Patrick Motorsports and it was made right. I was initially pissed considering how long this has all taken now I am at the point where I don't want the car back until everything works as it should.

I called Jim about a price to machine my bellhousing. He gave me the price. I then said I was going to check around for other prices. He came unglued on the phone. Yelling at me about how he pioneered the conversion and now I was looking for a cheaper place. Then he hung up on me.
So I am guessing that if he was the last Porsche vendor on earth, I still wouldn't call him.
