88 930 cab value???
I've been in the market for a 930 for a while now. So far nothing has been the right car for the right price. I thought I found "the one" a few weeks ago but the PPI found 75% leak down on the #6 cylinder. The motor was just built in January of this year. (Isn't Ebay great)Ouch. Anyway, I looked at an 88 cab today. I'm partial to coupes but a cab might be fun for a while. It has 41,xxx miles, black/tan int. all stock except the muffler and some nasty wheels. Original paint in really good shape and the interior is mint except a dried up drivers seat. What do you guys think it's worth? Right away I need to deduct enough to replace the wheels. Do people want 930 cabs? It seems like nothing is selling right now except 89's . Any help would be great. Thanks.

Id say if its a straight, tight, well kept car, you are looking at $34-35K for that mileage. Cabs are far and away tougher to find than coupes, only surpassed by Targa Turbos. But in my experience, cabs and even very rare Targa Turbos dont really carry much more value, at least in the present (but this may change). Many people dont want to hassle with cabs especially if they live in the snow belt, and many never warmed up to the targa look which is why so few were built in the first place. The exception to this in the cab world Id say would be slant cabs. They seem to be doing very well in the market.
If I found a cab that was too good to pass up however and at the right price, Id get a cab over a coupe. Get the best 930 you can for your money and learn to love it. Its better to compromise on a couple sticking points to get a well kept car than to get the car of your exacting options only to find its not the car its cracked up to be. Last thing I wanted was a red 930, but I had no choice in the matter in a way. The car chose me.
If you have stupid money, disregard everything I just said. Im speaking from a budget standpoint. If you are like me, you hate paying for two Arbys subs until they go on sale for $5 a pair.

OK, I have to chime in. I have an 88 cab. I love it. 35k is a fair price, but add $ 2500 for Fuchs, $700 for the front seats re-covers (need to match). Then add $ 1500 for something you've missed. Coupes are great, but you can't compair the thrill when the top goes down and the waste gate lights up, expecially with Fab speed duals.

I have to mirror what Plinker just said. I have a coupe too...but there's just something about dropping the top and taking a liesurely drive on a cool evening with the top down. Yes...there are more doo-dads to go wrong, but a little regularly scheduled maintenance on the various moving parts and you're good to go.

Thanks for the replies. Your figures are just what I thought. I'm going to pass on this car. He's asking 42k, I offered 36k but he's looking for high 30's. I'll keep looking. If anyone knows of anything, let me know. Thanks.

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THAT I AM ALSO INTERESTED IN A 930 TO ADD TO THE STABLE BUT I PREFER COUPES I WONDER WHAT THE DEALER WILL EVENTUALLY GET FOR IT I WAS INITIALLY TOLD THE SELLER NEEDED 50K TO BE ABLE TO TRADE FOR THE 997 SO I GUESS HE IS WATERCOOLED NOW. I WILL KEEP YOU POSTED IF ANYTHING ELSE SHOWS UP -PAUL

Check the latest Excellence Turbo price edition. Also, Hemmings has them anywhere from high 30s to the 50s. SCM who has a built in nasty disposition toward these cars (might have something to do with their new Corvette mag) has them in the 30s. Pesonally, I feel these cars are vastly underated on a fun and dependabiltiy scale.

I think that the 930s are currently a bit underrated....but I have a pretty strong feeling that in the next year or two they're going to come into their own....in the meantime, they're a blast to drive and own and that's the bottom line.

I found a nice looking '89 triple black cab listed for $35. Unfortunately the seller had promised to hold it until today for someone, who it looks like bought it. Listed price was $35k, and it had about 77k miles (probably just as well for me, as the wife went and spent the money elsewhere this weekend...).

Okay, so I just found out that the car is still available because the seller is presently firm on his price. The previously interested party is from Chicago--anyone here?
Just wondering if anyone knows about THIS CAR .
Suppose to not leak, but does burn some oil. 77k miles, no rust, normal service, engine hasn't been torn down. Price is $35k, which is about $10k+ lower than others in the market with 60-65k miles.
