Snake oil.

I don't think the oil is in the "cooler" long enough to do any good, but it can't hurt (except lighten your wallet).

I looked at it about a year ago and luckily found a web site that discussed oil coolers. It basicly said what Rocket said above, that the oil was not in the cooler long enough to lose much heat. The other thing that is critical for an oil cooler to work is air flow. In the location in the picture it would only work when traveling at high speeds thus would be of no use around town. I was wondering what one more engine cooler located in the area of the internal oil cooler, only external, but using one side of the engine fan that supplies the heater system for air flow. The fan puts out high speed air even at idle and the plumbing would not be as complicated as the front mounted cooler. Even a small after market oil cooler, about $150 would work. I don't know what the down side is or if anyone has tried to use the fan air for oil cooling.
